About the Event

Big is Beautiful 4: It Must Be Love - This time its Bigger-er!

It was love at first listen when we came across the Moulettes over a decade ago, and our feelings have only grown stronger with time.

Rum Buffalo stole our hearts, and the Voodoo Love Orchestra put us under their spell.

We are extremely excited to present to you a selection of musicians and performers that we are absolutely head over heels about - from Expansive Prog-Folk, explosive Rock n Roll, and wild, unchained Jazz, with huge ensembles delivering shows that just wouldn't fit into anywhere smaller!

All these acts will all be bringing expanded line-ups, unique for BiB, to help create an even bigger noise.

Not ones to rest on our laurels, we have aimed our sights at the absolute pinnacle of the Brighton and London music scenes for this one.

Along with the (un)usual eclectic mix of BiB goings on - circus performers, roaming brass bands, non-stop live music from the word go, and HUGE line-ups creating expansive unusual and unique musical experiments -

every act on this line-up has been handpicked to make you move your feet, expand your mind, make the most of this amazing space, and showcase the BIGGEST, the BEST, and the most BEAUTIFUL musical creations we have ever collectively experienced - and we are extremely excited to share them with you.

Understated is so 2020.

Rum Buffalo:

Stomping through the murky streets of London comes something big … AND LOUD!

Rum Buffalo have been tearing up the underground music scene in the UK with a unique brand of Jazz flavoured Psych-Rock, and have pounced onto the stage with their debut album 'Blood Moon'.

The album unfurls like the evil twin of the bustling metropolis that birthed them—vivid, energetic, and unpredictable.

Improbable horn lines, reminiscent of big-band greats such as ‘Duke Ellington’, sit amongst HUGE sonic landscapes, provided by Jack White-esque guitar, twisted synths, and groove heavy rhythms.

"Surprising, perspiring, inspiring. This is everything British indie should be." - Fred Olafsson - Secret Solstice, Iceland

"Blown away..." - John Kennedy - Radio X

"Led by the magnetic Jake Stevens, Rum Buffalo creates a landscape that knows no bounds" - Glide Magazine

Voodoo Love Orchestra:

Harking back to the big-band sounds of 1960s Latin America, via the back-streets of New Orleans, Voodoo Love Orchestra have returned to reclaim their place on the throne as Brightons most vibrant, wild and explosive brass band!

The infectious, maverick and irresistible swinging street-music of Voodoo Love Orchestra will leave you spellbound.

This is more an invasion than a performance, with a euphoric riot of musicians weaving in and out of the throng, overseen by the megaphone-wielding High Priestess, invoking the spirits of celebrations.

Delving deep into the heart of the tropics, this globe-trotting ensemble uses the themes of ‘voodoo’ and ‘love’ to straddle a whole range of pan-Atlantic sounds: Colombian Cumbia, Cuban Comparsa, New Orleans Jazz, Mississippi Blues, Nigerian Afrobeat, Jamaican Ska and Ghanaian Highlife.

The musical melange of relentlessly syncopated beats and squealing trumpets is an abundantly joyous salute to the roots of carnival!

"The party album of the year? Love it" - Clive Davis, The Sunday Times

"Voodoo Love Orchestra are a force to be reckoned with, driven by irresistible rhythms and a powerful but nimble horn section." - Simon Broughton, The Evening Standard

Nine Dead Mice:

English and Celtic folk for the 21st century!

Brightons favourite foot-stomping folk trio, combining first-class musicianship with refreshingly modern arrangements of traditional tunes and songs, raucous foot-stomping energy with gentle ballads and old songs that are somehow still very relevant, Nine Dead Mice have slowly but surely been securing themselves a well-deserved position in the UK's burgeoning traditional music scene.

Ceilidh Boom:

As usual, we are lucky to have the inimitable Electro-Ceilidh outfit, Ceilidh Boom opening the night for us.

Making the most of our excessively-sized venue, they will lead you through a selection of willow-stripping, Scotsman-flying reels, hornpipes and jigs - welcoming in the night with a big, sweaty, two-step folkie mess!
