About the Event
Have you failed your New Years resolutions, dry January and Veganuary already? It was probably God’s plan. Why not to repurpose them for Lent? But before the ritual sacrifices onset come and indulge in rich, fatty, filthy riffs of the ensuing bands like Jesus would have wanted.
BYOpancakes.
SHAKU
Shaku’s genre-fluid identity sees them slip down the cracks between Canterbury scene prog, classic blues, funk-jazz-rock and epic old school rock. Listeners are blasted into a new era of guitar rock injected with giddy nostalgia, with a crib-sheet of influences from Zappa, Gong, Caravan and Parliament/Funkadelic. The freeness of their music is perfectly captured by their high-energy, wacky performances where the band bring a party, using music as a freeing-force to break the shackles of negativity, while not taking themselves or their work too seriously.
"Utterly Bonkers" - Emily Pilbeam, BBC Introducing West Yorkshire
"Full on joyous psych-rock with a jazzy grin and a prog vibration which runs through their veins like musical haemoglobin." - Prole Jazz
“Just because you have big ideas and exceptional musicianship, your music doesn’t need to lose its sense of humour – Shaku proves that point.” – James Thornhill, Proxy Music
