Time & Location
17 Nov 2023, 19:00 – 21:30
Brighton and Hove, 10 Marine Parade, Kemptown, Brighton and Hove, Brighton BN2 1TL, UK
About the Event
It's autumn, everything is either Pantone 021 C or Pantone 1 XGC, and we can't wait to make gallons of seasonal soups and cosy up with some cats because it's not Summer, it's not Spring, and it’s not Winter. It's Autumn.
For one night only we're bringing this gourmet and oxytocin-filled experience to Patterns. Please join our Feline Feast courtesy of Town of Cats and Lakuta on November 17th.
LAKUTA
Lakuta are a collective of über-gifted musicians from in and around Brighton, fronted by the inimitable Siggi Mwasote on vocals. Their unique brand of Soulful Afro Funk has had crowds dancing in fields (Glastonbury, SGP, Latitude, Shambala) and venues (Concorde2, Patterns, Komedia, Jazz Cafe, Festival Hall,) throughout the UK and Europe (France, Spain, Malta) for well over a decade. Siggi describes their sound as ‘serious issues dressed in the sumptuous clothing of beautiful music’.

“Infectiously danceable bed of sound, a frivolous uplifting spirit and a steely core”. The Guardian
“Lakuta sets out its stall with passion and energy.” The Independent
“Championing a more open mind to culture and tradition - 5 stars!” Blues and Soul
TOWN OF CATS
Town of Cats are an ever-mutating municipality of musical misfits, grown in Brighton’s grubby and fertile Petri dish. To hear them is to be transported by the transformative power of the best parties. The ones that set fire to your zero-hour contract and remind you that change, real change, can come from the most ordinary of places. Their intricate wordplay careens between raised-brow punnage and righteous indignation at the state of the nation. Funk rhythms dare you not to dance, coloured by boiling blasts of brass and a guitar that warps from crystalline chicken-scratch to face-melting prog. Whether the keys belong to some sleazy lounge act or the Mothers of Invention is up for debate...
'Town of Cats have performed multiple times in The Peoples Front Room and it’s always been a killer performance. The band manage to capture such incredible energy through their full throttle performance and if the audience were lounging around on our sofas at the opening of their set by song two they're all up and dancing and responding to incredible energy the band give off. Every band member brings something different to the massive line up and you instantly want to join in and be part of the party they start. Make sure you catch these guys live, you won’t regret it.'
-ALBA TORRISET, PEOPLE'S FRONT ROOM
'Town of Cats were incredible at Nozstock: The Hidden Valley this year! They had the audience in the palm of their hand and brought nothing but the best vibes to our beloved Garden Stage! They can come back anytime.'
-BEN PEER, PROGRAMMER FOR NOZSTOCK FESTIVAL
'Master Blasters! Town of Cats are the best festival band EVER!! Prepare to dance!'
-CONSTANCE DALRYMPLE, ARTISTIC DIRECTOR OF MANDREA FESTIVAL
'Town of Cats were the pick of a very strong program. They were the penultimate act on at the Village Inn stage on the Sunday of this years, Larmer Tree Festival. They absolutely smashed it! So much so that a member from the headline act was heard to say , “ how the f@!? Do you follow that”!? ToC rule!!!'
-COLIN HOLTON, PROGRAMMER FOR THE VILLAGE IN, LARMER TREE FESTIVAL
