About the Event

Big IS Beautiful. Join us for an evening of excess where we will be celebrating the pleasures of the gargantuan, the delights of the monstrous and the ferocious furriness of the big cat.

Three of the biggest bands that Brighton, Bristol and London have ever had the organisational capacity to produce will descend on our fair city, into the biggest venue that Hove has to offer - for one night only, at the Old Market. Understated is so 2020.

Opening the night will be Brightons only Electro-Ceilidh outfit, CEILIDH BOOM. Making the most of our excessively-sized venue, they will lead you through a selection of willow-stripping, Scotsman-flying reels, hornpipes and jigs, welcoming in the night with a big, sweaty, two-step folkie mess!

BUFFO'S WAKE are upsizing. For one night only, their 6 piece Klezmer-punk Carnival Chaos will be supplemented by the very best musicians that Brighton and London has to offer. Transforming into a 19 piece cacophonous chamber orchestra - they will take to the stage, forcing you to waltz, tango, mosh and kolo your way through a vast array of influences from Eastern European, Balkan and Russian folk, to punk rock and cabaret, whilst they tell their tall tales of debauchery, deformity, zombies, and obscure anatomy.

Drawing from diverse backgrounds ranging from Drum n’ Bass DJ’s to classically trained string players, punks to funk players and poets to showmen, you’re never quite sure what to expect next from Buffo’s Wake. In their time together, they have toured all over the world, finding an inspired, confused, sweaty, and often very drunk reception everywhere they go. Klezmer Carnival Punks – with influences from Abba to Zappa, Buffo’s Wake are guaranteed to leave you dancing like a man possessed!

LOS ALBERTOS are a six piece dance ska and pop band from Brighton, UK.

Formed in 2002 they have toured the venues and festivals of the UK, Europe and Russia with great popular success releasing three studio albums, a live album and an EP along the way.

Their sound fuses ska, drum n bass and old skool techno with a funky, punky pop sensibility.

The line up of drums, bass and guitar with a three piece brass section allows the band to explore and mix all these styles while retaining their own sound, characterised by four part harmonies and sax, trumpet and guitar solos.

This combination produces an enormously dynamic, lyrically colourful and irresistibly dancy sound.

The band possesses a wealth of songwriting talent drawn from all band members which has resulted in experiments in less pop oriented styles such as Klezmer, dub and hip hop.

Los Albertos begin their gigs instantly running, leading the audience with fast paced dance sounds and taking them to a break-neck and frenzied climax leaving audiences dazed, exhausted and happy!

Not to be missed.

TOWN OF CATS are an ever-mutating municipality of musical misfits, grown in Brighton’s grubby and fertile Petri dish. To hear them is to be transported by the transformative power of the best parties. The ones that set fire to your zero-hour contract and remind you that change, real change, can come from the most ordinary of places. Wordplay careens between raised-brow punnage and righteous indignation at the state of the nation. Funk rhythms dare you not to dance, coloured by boiling blasts of brass and a guitar that warps from crystalline chicken-scratch to face-melting prog. Whether the keys belong to some sleazy lounge act or the Mothers of Invention is up for debate. Town of Cats started as a winking, whimsical set of backstreet fables. They’ve coalesced into a battle- hardened groove and a well-worn but vital message: when we stand together, we break down walls.

OPA ROSA are skilled purveyors of Klezmer, Balkan, Greek & Roma music, performing a collection of vibrant traditional melodies played with fiery precision. Fast gaining a reputation as one of Bristol’s most dynamic and virtuosic bands, Opa Rosa will take you on a foot-stomping journey through the Balkans and beyond!

KOMBOLOI STAR is the one-man side project of Nottinghams finest Greek-prog-punk botherers, Hallouminati. Combining 140 DnB with Souleyman-esque synths, panic driven bouzouki lines and a penchant for early 00's nu-metal Komboloi Star will be closing the night with their slightly esoteric blend of melodies and rhythms.
